About the Oklahoma State Trumpet Studio
The OSU trumpet studio is a group of like-minded individuals dedicated to achieving the highest standards of musical performance and pedagogy through the development of extraordinary technique and musicality. Under the direction of Dr. Ryan Gardner, the OSU trumpet studio believes that through dedicating themselves to these concepts they will be prepared to be successful in entering any career in the musical world.
Graduates of the OSU Trumpet Studio have gone on to study at the University of New Mexico, the Juilliard School of Music, Southern Methodist University, the University of Texas, Carnegie Mellon School of Music, Northwestern University, DePaul University, the University of Colorado and the University of North Texas to name a few.
Several members of the OSU Trumpet Studio have gone on to have successful performing careers playing with ensembles including Paragon Ragtime Orchestra (NYC), Jacksonville Symphony (Fl.), Huntsville Symphony (Ala), Talia Contemporary Music Ensemble (NY), Fort Smith Symphony, Distinguished Concerts International New York Orchestra, Tulsa Opera and Tulsa Philharmonic. Alumni have also performed in some of the countries major concert halls: Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall and Merkin Hall.
Current students are encouraged to participate in summer festivals. Students have attended Music Academy of the West, Round Top Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, Eastern Music Festival, Texas Music Festival, Hot Springs Music Festival as well as performing in Italy, Germany, Japan, England and Austria.
The studio has been host to numerous clinicians and guest residencies including Tom Hooten, Marie Speziale, Ryan Anthony, Craig Morris, James Thompson, Michael Sachs, Wayne Bergeron, Doc Severinsen, Randy Brecker, the American Brass Quintet, the Canadian Brass, the Boston Brass and the Dallas Brass.
The OSU Trumpet Ensemble has performed to rave reviews and standing ovations at the 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016 International Trumpet Guild Conferences in addition to being featured in the 2014 ITG promotional video. Dr. Gardner's students have achieved success at the regional, national and international levels, being awarded International Trumpet Guild Conference scholarships and most recently, winning the Trumpet Ensemble Division at the 2016, 2015 and 2014 National Trumpet Competition, in addition to placing first in the 2016 Graduate Solo Division of NTC.
